Look carefully and you'll observe a recess in the center of the head. This recess enables the weight of the head to distribute itself in the toe and the heel, which is good for putting. The lie in angle tells you whether or not the putter is flat against the ground when you are holding it.
When making your purchase, have the salesperson check this for you. The putter should be sitting flat against the ground. If it isn't, you should get it changed.
Length and Grip
These should be your final considerations when buying the putter, but they are important nonetheless. 35 inches is the standard length of a putter. If you stand very straight while putting, a longer putter is useful.
If you tend to stoop a lot, a short putter is what you need. The grip should be determined by the size of your hands. A person with small hands needs a grip with a smaller diameter.
The most important thing to remember is that you are comfortable with your putter. It should look and feel just right. Remember, it is to be your best friend on the golf course. If you keep these things in mind, you should have no problem choosing a great golf putter.
